A medical examiner was investigating Sunday after a family on a canoe trip found human remains on the bank of the Nemadji River in Carlton County.
The remains, which were reported to the Sheriff's Office about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, were spotted southeast of the intersection of the Soo Line ATV trail and Hwy. 23.
They were turned over to the medical examiner; an identification has not been released.
St. Louis County Rescue Squad and Wrenshall and Carlton fire crews assisted sheriff's deputies with the search and recovery.
