Career: Practiced law in 1983. Ordained as priest in 1989. Priest in Pittsburgh Diocese 1990-1996. Worked at Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts in Rome, 1996-2009. Named bishop of Gaylor, Mich., diocese in 2009, and coadjutor archbishop of Newark in 2013.

Named interim archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis in 2015.
