A parks weekend: Programs include cleaning parks, hiking for birds

A mix of programs this weekend at state and regional parks.

Park cleanup day

Lake Maria State Park

10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday

Reptilian

Fort Snelling State Park, 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday

Parents and preschoolers will learn about frogs and toads through hands-on activities. (612-725-2724, mndnr.gov)

Bird migration hike

Itasca State Park, 12:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday

Take a 6½-mile hike with the park naturalists and search for birds. The hike will follow the North Country Trail and Eagle Scout Trail. Portions are strenuous. (1-218-699-7251, mndnr.gov)

Sounds of spring hike

Wild River State Park, 10-11:30 a.m. Sunday

Take a hike with a park naturalist and identify the spring sounds of nature. (651-583-2125 ext. 227, mndnr.gov)
