Country comforts

Boston reporter Geoff Edgers ventures out of the newsroom and into the "Edge of America" (8 p.m., Travel), a new series that has our engaging host jousting on a tall bike, eating fried bull testicles and shooting on a frontier range.

Do not resuscitate

After six seasons, ABC is pulling the plug on "Private Practice" (9 p.m., KSTP, Ch. 5), a somewhat serviceable soap that never quite reached the heights of its big-sister drama, "Grey's Anatomy." The axing might give executive producer Shonda Rhimes more time to concentrate on her uneven series "Scandal," which should be a better vehicle for its compelling star, Kerry Washington.

Land of the lost

A "Lost" veteran embarks on some new adventures in "Wild Things With Dominic Monaghan" (9 p.m., BBC America), a series which proves that actors can be just as daring and foolhardy as any crocodile hunter. Monaghan is a compelling if sometimes overly intense guide as he takes us into the heart of Vietnam to look for a nasty water bug.
