In doing a little research for a Page 2 item for tomorrow, we came across something rather startling: There have been eight full-time coaches of the Timberwolves in their history (not counting Kevin McHale, who took over on an interim basis twice but never started a season). Only one of them, Flip Saunders, lasted more than two full seasons.

Every other coach (Bill Musselman, Jimmy Rodgers, Sidney Lowe, Bill Blair, Dwane Casey, Randy Wittman and Kurt Rambis) has two seasons or fewer on his resume. Wittman coached parts of three seasons, but only 143 games total (fewer than two full seasons). Rambis, of course, is coming to the end of year two. We'll likely know soon whether he gets that coveted and hard to come by third season with the Wolves.

When you understand this, you understand why the Wolves have always seemed -- except for the Saunders + KG in his prime years -- to be in constant rebuilding mode. We're not saying that's a reason to keep Rambis. We're just saying that's a pretty awful track record with coaches.
