August 9, 2010 at 7:25PM

The southern Plains and Southeast will continue to cook on Tuesday with a largearea expecting high temperatures in the upper 90s and low 100s. This patternhas been locked in since July, and this month has been really hot. In Dallas,Texas, for instance, the temperature has reached 100 degrees every day thismonth; the highest reading was 105 which occurred last Friday. In addition to the blistering heat, the region from central Texas on eastwardhas been terribly humid with dew point temperatures in the mid- and upper 70s.

This has resulted in in RealFeel temperatures as high as 118 degrees which iswell into the danger zone.

The surges of heat toward the north have sparked thunderstorms across thenorthern Plains and Midwest all summer long, and more strong storms are dueTuesday from the Dakotas to southern Wisconsin. Some of the thunderstorms willtake on a destructive nature, but typically in cases like this less than 5percent of the total area experiences anything really bad.
