• Twins owner Jim Pohlad continues to expand his influence across Major League Baseball. Earlier this week, MLB announced Pohlad was named as one of seven owners on the search committee for Commissioner Bud Selig’s replacement. Pohlad is joined on the search committee by the Cardinals’ Bill DeWitt Jr. (the chairman of the committee), the White Sox’s Jerry Reinsdorf, the Angels’ Arte Moreno, the Pirates’ Bob Nutting, the Rockies’ Dick Monfort and the Phillies’ Dave Montgomery. Selig’s contract expires in January 2015.

• The Gophers men’s basketball and hockey teams showed an increase in overall ticket sales between the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. The men’s basketball team went from 158,185 tickets to 159,167, with student ticket sales increasing from 11,831 to 13,502. The men’s hockey team went from 195,085 to 212,325, with those numbers including the Hockey City Classic and North Star College Cup, but student ticket sales actually fell from 16,507 to 12,321. … In football ticket sales, the Gophers have sold 30,840 season tickets to date.

• Included in the Gophers baseball schedule for 2015 is an exhibition game against the Twins in Fort Myers, Fla., on March 3. They also will play three games with the Twins’ Gulf Coast League team before that. With the Metrodome torn down, the Gophers will play at least 12 games in Texas and Nebraska before opening the season at Siebert Field on March 20. … Twins Vice President of Player Personnel Mike Radcliff and Scouting Director Deron Johnson were in Minneapolis this week to conduct predraft meetings with the team’s top amateur scouts. The Twins have the fifth overall pick in baseball’s amateur draft, which takes place June 5-7.
