Wolves-Miami game preview

  • Updated: March 3, 2013 - 11:07 PM

Preview: The Heat, which on Sunday in New York tied a franchise record by winning its 14th consecutive game, has beaten the Wolves five consecutive times and is aiming for its third season sweep in a row. It won 103-92 in Miami on Dec. 18, back when forward Kevin Love, center Nikola Pekovic and forward Andrei Kirilenko all were in the starting lineup. All three -- Love for sure, of course -- probably are out Monday. Kirilenko has missed the past two games because of a strained calf and Pekovic missed Saturday's 109-94 loss because of an abdominal strain. He said afterward that he was still sore and expected to undergo an MRI on Monday.

Player to watch: Any doubt LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are a dynamic duo? James' 40-point, 16-assist, eight-rebound night and Wade's 39-point, eight-rebound, seven-assist game in Tuesday's double-overtime victory over Sacramento are numbers a pair of NBA teammates have reached only once before. Denver's Kiki Vandeweghe had 51 points, nine rebounds and eight assists and Alex English 47 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists in a 1983 game against Detroit. ... James shot at least 50 percent from the field in a career-best 14 consecutive games from Jan. 30 to Feb. 26, or through most of that 14-game winning streak. He shot 63.4 percent (149-for-235) in that time. That's the longest streak in team history, one more game than Shaquille O'Neal reached in 2005. ... James is three three-pointers shy of 1,000 for his career.

Injuries: Kirilenko (strained calf) and Pekovic (abdominal strain) are doubtful for the Wolves. Love (hand surgery), F Chase Budinger (knee surgery) and guards Brandon Roy (knees) and Malcolm Lee (knee, hip surgeries) are out. The Heat reports no injuries.
