Jerry Zgoda missed the entire Kevin Garnett era, but he's back covering the Timberwolves after working the beat for their first four seasons two decades ago. In between, he covered a bit of everything: Gopher men's and women's basketball and NCAA athletics, golf, outdoor recreation, sports media and a little Vikings and Twins.

Momentum ends in Boston

Well let's just say that momentum gathered in Philadelphia Tuesday didn't carry over.

Actually, it kind of did. At least for the first two quarters of the Wolves' game tonight in Boston. The Wolves were having some struggles on defense, but still led by four at halftime.

Then the Wolves' defense took a powder. True, the Celtics were playing after having rested three days while the Wolves were finishing up a back-to-back. But remember, Wolves coach Rick Adelman rested his starters in the fourth quarter of the victory in Philadelphia.

Here are some impressions:

--Kevin Love talked after the game about how his right hand, still healing, is giving his shot fits. He struggled again with his shot tonight. I also think he's not back in top form after his bout with the flu, either.

--The Celtics played some very physical defense on Alexey Shved tonight, something the rookie is going to have to get used to.

--The Wolves have to figure out a way to make free throws. Love might have an excuse for a 6-for-12 night. But how about the rest of the team, which went a combined 8-for-18 from the line?

--The Celtics really attacked the Wolves on the boards, outrebounding Minnesota 45-41.

I have to sign off now. Way, way early flight tomorrow. Have a very good night.
