Vanek might be on the move again

With the March 5 trade deadline on the horizon, the two biggest rental names on the block right now are two guys who were traded for each other earlier this season — the Islanders' Thomas Vanek and Buffalo's Matt Moulson.

Vanek is expected to let Isles GM Garth Snow know any day if he's willing to sign an extension there. It would seem unlikely.

Other forwards on the block include the Wild's Dany Heatley, Winnipeg's Olli Jokinen, Calgary's Michael Cammalleri, Nashville's David Legwand and injured Columbus winger Marian Gaborik.

Rangers captain Ryan Callahan would like to remain in New York, but he could be traded if an extension isn't worked out. Reportedly, the St. Louis Blues are interested and dangling Chris Stewart.

As for defensemen, the Rangers' Dan Girardi is in the last year of his deal, but he reportedly is close to an extension. Edmonton's Nick Schultz and New Jersey's Marek Zidlicky, two former Wild players, are also in the last year of their deals.

Amazing performance

The talk of the league this week was Ben Scrivens' 59-save shutout against San Jose.

"I owe the shot-keeper a beer," Scrivens joked. "Funny thing is I felt awful in warmup. Very inauspicious start to the night."

Teammate Jordan Eberle said, "I stopped counting all the amazing saves he made." Sharks coach Todd McLellan added, "[He] should have been first, second and third star."
