Updated Wild depth chart

Posted by: Michael Russo under Wild off-season news Updated: July 2, 2013 - 9:14 AM

I wanted to give you the most updated look at the Wild's depth chart that ran with today's Insider, which can be read here. This will obviously change throughout the summer, and maybe even by the end of the day.

If defenseman Tom Gilbert is going to be bought out by Thursday at 4 p.m. and become a free agent Friday, he'll have to be placed on unconditional waivers first. That would need to occur today or Wednesday.

Also, qualifying offers must be extended by today. Again, the only one you really need to be concerned about is Jared Spurgeon, and that was done already.

I will be filling in for Common from 12-3 today (Tuesday), so please tune in/call in. Starting just before noon, you can tweet me questions for the show at @russostrib or ask a question on my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/startribunemikerusso and I'll try to answer during the show.

Here is the depth chart, and if there's news today, I'll be sure to put it on the blog:

Forwards

Left wing                         Center                          Right wing

Zach Parise ($7.5+M)       Mikko Koivu (6.75M)   **Jason Pominville (4.505M)

*Nino Niederreiter (2.795M) *Charlie Coyle (975K)   Devin Setoguchi 3M

*Jason Zucker ($833,333) Kyle Brodziak (2.83+M) Dany Heatley (7.5M)

Mike Rupp (1.5M)           Zenon Konopka (925K) Torrey Mitchell (1.9M)

Extra: Jake Dowell (700K)

Unrestricted free agents: Matt Cullen and Pierre-Marc Bouchard (won’t be back).
Some vying for spots: *Mikael Granlund, Justin Fontaine (RFA), Stephane Veilleux, Benn Ferriero (RFA, may not be qualified), *Erik Haula, *Brett Bulmer, *Zack Phillips.
* Two-way contract; can be sent to the minors without waivers.
**Buffalo picking up roughing $795,000

Defensemen

Left Defense                     Right Defense

Ryan Suter (7.5+M)          *Jonas Brodin (1.4+M)

Marco Scandella (1.025M) Jared Spurgeon (RFA)

Clayton Stoner (1.05M)   Tom Gilbert (4M)

Extra: Nate Prosser (825,000)

Vying for spots: Matt Dumba, Steve Kampfer, Kyle Medvec (RFA)
Unrestricted free agent: Brett Clark (won't be back)

Goalies

Niklas Backstrom (3.42M)
Josh Harding (1.9M)

Buyout charge

Mark Parrish ($927,778)

Total cap hit roughly: $63,882,502
Buffalo cap hit on Pominville: $795,000
Wild’s cap ceiling next year is roughly: $63.9M
Available space roughly: $812,498 before potentially re-signing Cullen, Spurgeon
***Niederreiter’s salary is actually $810,000; Cap hits for all Minnesota’s entry-level players inflated for potential bonuses; teams can exceed the cap by 7.5% on potential performance bonuses, so Wild actually has more cap space than listed.
