Sapp re-signs with Vikings

Cornerback Benny Sapp has re-signed with the Vikings, according to a tweet from his agent Andy Simms.

Sapp became an unrestricted free agent last week and tested the market before re-signing.

Sapp's return is good news for the Vikings since it's unclear when Cedric Griffin will be ready to play after having surgery to repair an torn ACL.

Sapp started last season as the nickel back but he took over at left corner when Antoine Winfield suffered a foot injury. Winfield was not 100 percent when he returned so he played in the slot as the nickel while Sapp remained as the starter.

Sapp did a nice job in place of the Pro Bowler, finishing with seven pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

We'll have more information on Sapp's signing a little later.

Update: Sapp agreed to a two-year deal after playing on back-to-back one-year deals for the Vikings in 2008 and 2009. The deal is worth $4.2 million with $1.5 million in guarantees. That is a nice raise for Sapp, who made about $800,000 in each of the past two years.
