The Vikings have a knack for ho-hum head coaches and primo coordinators. A quick brainstorm gives me a list of 3 recent Super Bowl winners: Tony Dungy, Brian Billick, and one that might hurt the most - Mike Tomlin.

We all had eyes for Tomlin from the beginning. While Childress seemed to escape within himself when pressure mounted, the camera would catch Tomlin going up and down the bench pumping his guys up.

He just looked like a coach. His enthusiasm was reassuring. His leadership was unquestioned. But that feeling of doom lingered. We all knew we had him on borrowed time.

He was considered a long shot for the Steelers job, but can you imagine how well he interviews? How could any team even consider an old retread coach instead of the energy he brings? I'm surprised it took him this long.

It was fun while it lasted. Tomlin laid the run stopping foundation we still see today. His ball-hawking secondary was among the league leaders in interceptions.

But now he's just a distant memory. The black and gold suits him better anyway. It didn't seem right to keep him cooped up in the dome.

Leslie Frazier and Darrell Bevell are the latest stopovers. Frazier's done a good job taking over Tomlin's blueprint and his name has been mentioned around the league. Bevell's in charge of one of the top ranked offenses and his time may come. But neither seem to have it the way Tomlin does.
