Vikings expected to interview McDaniels, Singletary

Judd is away from his computer but called to report the Vikings are expected to interview former Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels as the offensive coordinator on Friday.

ESPN's John Clayton reports that Frazier will also interview former San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary for the linebackers coach job. Here is that report.

Leslie Frazier kept offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell on his staff after releasing three offensive assistants on Wednesday. However, Frazier has been noncommittal about Bevell's role going forward in several interviews since being promoted to head coach on Monday.

McDaniels, who was fired by the Broncos this season, served as offensive coordinator under Bill Belichick in New England before going to Denver. Ironically, McDaniels and Frazier were the two finalists for the Broncos head job in 2009.

McDaniels went 11-17 in Denver before being fired amid controversy after the team's video coordinator videotaped part of the San Franciso 49ers practice this season.

The Denver Post chronicles McDaniels rocky tenure in Denver in this story.

Frazier's interest in adding Singletary to his staff was expected. The two played together for the Chicago Bears and have remained very close friends over the years. Singletary was fired by the 49ers at the end of this season.

Frazier is expected to keep Fred Pagac as the defensive coordinator after he took over on an interim basis after Frazier was promoted to interim head coach. That creates an opening for a linebackers coach.

Here is a story we did last season on the Frazier/Singletary friendship.
