Favre active, Peterson won't play

Brett Favre will play Monday night but he won't have Adrian Peterson in the backfield.

Ruled "out" on the official injury report, Favre was upgraded to questionable and will start against the Chicago Bears after testing his injured right shoulder in early warmups.

Peterson, however, was declared inactive because of a right thigh injury. Peterson was listed as questionable after injuring his thigh when he collided with Tarvaris Jackson on a handoff exchange last week. Peterson also has been dealing with a right ankle injury.

This is the first time Peterson has missed a game since his rookie season in 2007. He missed two games after suffering a knee injury against Green Bay.

Favre threw passes from different distances for about 10 minutes during early warmups as offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers and head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman watched.

The Vikings other inactives are wide receiver Greg Lewis, safety Tyrell Johnson (knee), safety Jamarca Sanford (concussion), offensive tackle Thomas Welch, defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy and quarterback R.J. Archer. Patrick Ramsey, who signed last week, is the No. 3 quarterback.

The Bears inactives are cornerback Joshua Moore, running back Kahlil Bell, linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa, guard Herman Johnson, guard/center Edwin Williams, tight end Desmond Clark and defensive tackle Marcus Harrison. Caleb Hanie is the No. 3 quarterback.
