The gossip site TerezOwens.com created a bit of a stir earlier today when it ran an item that carried the headline "Zygi Wilf Moving Minnesota Vikings to Los Angeles." I was not familiar with this site but more than a few folks on Twitter picked up the link and ran with it, allowing the speculation to begin. The item read: Zygi Wilf flew to Los Angeles in his private Vikings plane to meet with Magic Johnson..According to my sources, the two secretly met at Van Nuys Airport just outside of Los Angeles to discuss the possibility of moving the Vikings to Los Angeles..Magic and AEG have made their plans public to bring football to Southern California. Given how things like this have a tendency to take off, I checked in with Lester Bagley, the Vikings vice president of public affairs and stadium development. Bagley recently acknowledged on the Vikings website that the team has been contacted by the two groups looking to get an NFL franchise to relocate to Los Angeles. While Johnson is involved with one of those groups, Bagley said in an e-mail that he is "not aware of any conversations going on in Los Angeles, other than the ones I referred to in the past with [Ed] Roski/[Tim] Leiweke." (Johnson is working with Leiweke's group.) Bagley added that the Vikings focus remains on resolving the stadium issue in Minnesota and he also pointed out "the Wilfs have business interests in California and travel there regularly."
