Four days after missing the bus from the team hotel to Soldier Field, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson finally divulged an explanation.
“I overslept,” Peterson said Thursday morning. “I slept through the alarm, through the calls. I overslept. I had the wake-up call set up. I slept through it. That’s it. It’s unfortunate. But you know, it happened.”
Peterson arrived at Soldier Field on Sunday separate from the team, needing to take a taxi from the JW Marriott in downtown Chicago to the stadium. He was in the locker room approximately 90 minutes prior to kickoff and said that missing the bus didn’t cause a significant disruption to his usual routine,
“Not much,” Peterson said. “I got in there, got warmed up, got ready for the game.”
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said Monday it was “a big deal” that Peterson was not on the team bus to the game, noting that “anytime one of your leaders is not where he is supposed to be, it’s not good.”
Peterson rushed for 108 yards on 18 carries against the Bears, registering his fifth consecutive 100-yard game. But the star running back also played a major role in two lost fumbles.
Peterson said he and Frazier met to sort through the mini-drama and have now turned the page.
“It’s over and done with,” Peterson said. “So I’m moving forward, worrying about what’s important now.”
What’s important now is this Sunday’s trip into Lambeau Field, a game the Vikings have to win to stay above .500. Green Bay gave up 147 rushing yards in their 38-10 road loss to the Giants on Sunday.
“[We need to] just stay true to what we do,” Peterson said. “Go out and pound the rock and then play off that. That simple.”
