Former Vikings defensive end and 2012 Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinee Chris Doleman has been added to the USFL's board of advisors, the league announced this morning.

The new league plans to begin play in March 2013 with a spring schedule.

Here's the press release:

San Diego, Calif. (August 28, 2012) — The United States Football League (USFL) announced today that former NFL star and 2012 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Chris Doleman has been named to the league’s board of advisors.

Doleman will serve on the business operations branch of the USFL’s advisory board, focusing on the league’s charitable efforts and community engagement. The eight-time Pro Bowl selection joins Pro Football Hall of Famers Marshall Faulk and Fred Biletnikoff, three-time Pro Bowler Lincoln Kennedy, 12-year NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia, along with former Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens executive vice president James Bailey and sports consultant/coach Terrell Jones on the board.

“Adding Chris to our board is another positive step for us,” USFL President and Chief Executive Officer Jaime Cuadra said. “With the roster of top-notch former NFL players and proven executives we have put together, we feel we have the right people in place to help us achieve our goal of getting this league off the ground.”

The USFL’s board of advisors will be responsible for guiding and advising USFL management on various areas of operations and, eventually, focus on identifying candidates and selecting the league’s commissioner.
