If there was ever a pitcher with plenty of motivation to pitch well today, it's Trevor May.

He's coming off a clunker in Milwaukee on Friday during which he retired one batter and was knocked out after giving up six runs. He had a chance to clean up the mess but threw wildly to second when he had a double play begging to be made.

Ervin Santana was super sharp for Class AAA Rochester on Tuesday - eight shutout innings, five hits, no walks, five strikeouts. He's ready, and someone has to exit the rotation to make room for him - unless the Twins decide to go to a six-man rotation.

Given May's most recent outing, he could be the one on the hot seat.

He'll face righthander Johnny Cueto, the Reds best pitcher and potential trade chip during deadline month. He's coming off a tough luck loss in New York against the Mets. New York had all of two hits but beat Cueto and the Reds 2-1.

Will check back soon with updates. My diet will be put to the test today as they are serving the popular Skyline Chili in the press dining room. Three-way, four-way or five-way?

UPDATES

Molitor expects to speak with Twins manager Terry Ryan today about roster moves and getting Ervin Santana onto the roster. The righthander finished 3-0 with a 1.74 ERA in three starts at Rochester. He's ready and could be a shot in the arm to a rotation that hasn't been that shabby.

But how will the Twins add Santana?

``I haven't had a chance to talk to Mike Quade or Marty Mason," Molitor said. ``I just looked at the numbers and they kinda jump out at you. A night in which he was efficient, obviously effective and command must have been good. He didn't walk anybody.

``I think everyone is excited to know that we're getting a pitcher of Ervin's caliber back here to join our club. Trevor's job is to look at the big picture. Right now he's called upon to give us a good start and hopefully try to help us win."

The Twins can add Santana to the roster as soon as Saturday.

``We have options about the rotation, whether we're going to try to go six-man to the break or if we're going to go five. Are you going to move a guy ,if you do go five, to the bullpen or are you going to move him out. There's a lot of things you can look at as options."

Torii Hunter - who entered the clubhouse pretending his wheeled suitcase was a crutch - Joe Mauer and Kurt Suzuki are all out of the lineup today. Even though Hunter has four homers in his last four games, the Twins are in a run of 17 straight days of games before the All-Star break. Molitor has to look big picture with the 39-year old Hunter.

With Mauer out, Eddie Rosario is batting third for the first time in his young career.
