La Velle E. Neal III has covered baseball for the Star Tribune since 1998 (the post-Knoblauch era). Born and raised in Chicago, he grew up following the White Sox and hating the Cubs. He attended both the University of Illinois and Illinois-Chicago and began his baseball writing career at the Kansas City Star. He can be heard occasionally on KFAN radio, lending his great baseball mind to Paul Allen and other hosts. Mark Rosen borrows him occasionally for WCCO-TV.

Picks to Click, 2014. The polls are open

Happy New Year!

Baseball season - in this country - is underway. And that means it's time for you to weigh in with your picks to click for the 2014 season.

For those of you new to this, you pick one Twins pitcher and one position player you think is going to have a good season. Everything is relative here, so picking Joe Mauer to click means he's hitting over .340...or hitting 20-plus homers.

Last year might have been my worst picks ever, as I selected Mike Pelfrey and Justin Morneau to click. So there's no way you can embarrass yourself here.

I will compile the results and release them early next week. You can also weigh in on twitter (@LaVelleNeal). And....I'm filling in for Paul Allen this morning on KFAN, where we will have a Picks to Click segment...or three.

Have fun! Welcome to the baseball season!
