Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.
Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe sounds confident he'll be ready to play Friday after missing a week with a right thumb injury.
Plouffe was expected to test the injury in a batting practice session Thursday at Target Field and tweeted (@TPlouffe24): "Positivity goes a long way! Looks like I'll be back on the field tomorrow. Thank you guys for all the love."
The Twins were prepared to place Plouffe on the disabled list if he wasn't ready to go on Friday. He's batting .259 with 19 home runs and 38 RBI.
