La Velle E. Neal III has covered baseball for the Star Tribune since 1998 (the post-Knoblauch era). Born and raised in Chicago, he grew up following the White Sox and hating the Cubs. He attended both the University of Illinois and Illinois-Chicago and began his baseball writing career at the Kansas City Star. He can be heard occasionally on KFAN radio, lending his great baseball mind to Paul Allen and other hosts. Mark Rosen borrows him occasionally for WCCO-TV.
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said following their 3-2 loss to Cleveland on Friday that Michael Cuddyer was unlikely to play on Saturday because of the sore neck he suffered while swinging the bat before the game. Gardenhire hopes Cuddyer can play on Sunday.
Alexi Casilla left the game in the seventh when he felt a slight twinge in his right hamstring while trying to beat out a bunt (he looked safe but was called out). The Twins are calling it a very very slight strain and hope he can play tomorrow.
If he can't, the Twins' bench will be mighty thin tomorrow.
By the way, the Twins are 22-23 in one-run games.
