The former Twins first baseman and minor league manager Doug Mientkiewicz is known, among other things, for his fiery disposition.

He'd been on an upward trajectory in the Twins organization until the new management team of Derek Falvey and Thad Levine took over. Mientkiewicz was a finalist for the Twins managerial job when Paul Molitor was hired after the 2014 season to replace Ron Gardenhire.

Mientkiewicz was promoted from Class A Fort Myers to AA Chattanooga, where he managed for two seasons before being returned to Fort Myers -- and then fired after one more season there in 2017. When Gardenhire was hired as Detroit's manager before this season, he made a successful pitch for Mientkiewicz to be hired to manage the Tigers' Class AAA team at Toledo.

That's your backstory., Here's the current story.

Mientkiewicz put on a Gardy-like performance a few days back when he was ejected from Toledo's game against Buffalo for arguing a call. (If anything, we were surprised this was the first time Mientkiewicz had been thrown out of a game -- Doug being Doug, and all.)

Two things to note: The Toledo catcher, Jerrod Saltalamacchia, didn't put up any kind of resistance at home plate to the call. And the broadcasting crew doesn't think Mientkiewicz has much of a case.

It's a good show. But how do you think it ranks compared to his mentor Gardenhire?
