TWINS UPDATE

Swarzak was needed in an emergency start July 23, and he responded by holding Cleveland to one run over five innings in a Twins victory. He threw 74 pitches in that game, and the Twins would love it if he could duplicate that on Monday. … Swarzak is taking the place of Tommy Milone in the rotation. Milone on Monday will have his sore neck examined by Twins doctors, and there is hope he can pitch before the season ends. … Kyle Gibson has thrown 159 innings, more than in any of his pro seasons. The watch is on to see whether he hits a wall.

TIGERS UPDATE

The Tigers will have to go through the Twins in order to make the postseason. The Twins will meet seven times over the final two weeks of the regular season, including a four-game series in Detroit to end the regular season. The teams have split the first 12 games of the series. … Detroit's Porcello has risen to another level this season. His 15 wins are a career high. His 3.23 ERA would be a career low, and he leads the American League with three shutouts.
