Twins game in Chicago postponed because of cold temperatures

Temperatures were expected to dip into the 20s on Friday night, with wind gusts of up to 20 miles per hour.

– The Twins’ game against the White Sox on Friday was postponed not because of rain and not because of snow … but rather because of cold.

Temperatures were expected to dip into the 20s on Friday night, with wind gusts of up to 20 miles per hour. The last time the White Sox postponed a game because of cold was also against the Twins on April 10, 2008.

No makeup date was announced. It’s the third time this season — all this week — the Twins have had a game postponed because of weather.

The Twins pitching staff will be well-rested by the time they play another game. Righthander Vance Worley, who hasn’t pitched since April 12, will start Saturday. Worley, 0-2 with a 10.50 ERA, lasted only an inning in his last outing and spent bullpen sessions trying to iron out some wrinkles in his mechanics.

Righthander Jake Peavy will start for the White Sox. He is coming off a seven-inning, five-hit, 11-strikeout performance last Saturday against Cleveland.

Lefthander Scott Diamond, who made his season debut last Saturday, will now pitch on Sunday. Righthanders Kevin Correia and Mike Pelfrey are tentatively scheduled to start the two games against Miami next week.

• Joe Mauer, a career .357 hitter at U.S. Cellular Field, enters the series on a nine-game hitting streak, the third-longest active streak in the majors. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Mauer is the first player in baseball with at least four hits and at least three RBI in two consecutive games since the Twins’ Danny Valencia did it July 26-27, 2010, at Kansas City.

• In their past nine games, the Twins are batting .319 with runners in scoring position.

• Josh Willingham is 0-for-15 in his career against Peavy.
