Preview: United (5-8-1 in MLS) is in the round of 16 in the U.S. Open Cup, a tournament that pits all levels of U.S. Soccer against each other, for the first time. The Loons have already beaten Houston (6-5-3 in MLS) this year — 2-1 at home on April 28 — and in three meetings last year, the Loons drew twice against Houston and lost once. They have yet to win at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Quotable: "Probably as dynamic as any team in the league. And you look at their results at home over the last two years. But we've done well at BBVA Stadium. Not only have we got a couple of results, but our performances have been good. So the big question, and it's the one that everybody has to answer: Can we contain their front three and four? Numbers: Sporting Kansas City beat FC Dallas 3-2 on Saturday and will face the winner of the United-Houston match in the quarterfinals. Kansas City is the defending U.S. Open Cup champion and knocked the Loons out of last year's tournament in its first match.

Injuries: F Abu Danladi (undisclosed), M Sam Cronin (concussion), D Marc Burch (knee), D Eric Miller (hamstring) and D Francisco Calvo (national team duty) are out for United; goalie Matt Lampson (knee) and D Jerome Thiesson (groin) are questionable. For Houston, D Adolfo Machado (national team duty), D A.J. DeLaGarza (knee), D Dylan Remick (concussion), D Jared Watts (concussion), M Darwin Ceren (leg), M Juan David Cabezas (quad), F Mac Steeves (hip) are out while M/D Andrew Wenger (calf) is questionable.
