Apple Valley fends off Maple Grove

• APPLE VALLEY 86, MAPLE GROVE 75: Sophomore Gary Trent Jr. scored 19 points to lead the Eagles (9-0), ranked No. 1 in Class 4A boys basketball poll, past the Crimson, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, in the Granite City Classic on Friday in St. Cloud. Sophomore Brad Davison scored 21 to lead the Crimson, who lost for the first time in nine games this season.

• CHAMPLIN PARK 84, ROSEVILLE 74: The Rebels, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, remained unbeaten by defeating the Raiders, ranked No. 6 in Class 4A, in the Granite City Classic. Sophomore guard McKinley Wright scored 20 points to pace the Rebels (10-0), who will play Apple Valley on Saturday. Mitch Poss scored 33 points to lead the Raiders.

• SOUTH ST. PAUL 66, NORTH BRANCH 63: Senior guard John Engel scored 27 points as the host Polars held off the Vikings.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

• SOUTH ST. PAUL 67, CRISTO REY JESUIT 25: Junior Elise Barnes scored 25 points to highlight the host Packers' victory.

BOYS' HOCKEY

• BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON 3, NEW PRAGUE 0: Ryan Graff and Jay Johnson scored 10 seconds apart in the third period to fuel the Jaguars' victory in the South St. Paul Premier Tournament at Wakota Arena. Johnson's goal at 5 minutes, 4 seconds of the third gave the Jaguars a 2-0 lead. Graff scored his second goal of the game 10 seconds later. Jaguars goalie Josh Waldron made 15 saves in the shutout victory.

• EAGAN 4, WOODBURY 4 (OT): After a scoreless five minutes of overtime, Eagan won the shootout 2-0 at the South St. Paul Premier Tournament. Spencer Roth and Max Bergman each scored two goals to lead Eagan.

• SOUTH ST. PAUL 4, HASTINGS 2: Matt Gellerman had two goals and an assist to lead the host Packers past the Raiders in the South St. Paul Premier Tournament.
