My favorite lure for taking walleyes from weed beds is a jig worm. Bass, pike and musky will also fall for this presentation. Most of the time I will use a one-eighth ounce jig head with a six inch plastic worm--preferably with a swimming tail. Black or purple are my favorite colors. There are many plastic bodies with different shapes and swimming tails available that work well on jig heads.
Most sporting good stores and bait shops carry them. Gopher and Northland tackle companies both make good jig heads that I use. They have barbs that hold the plastic bodies firmly. Those anglers who haven't yet used this type of lure are really missing out. The good stores will have someone who will gladly show you how to rig them.
Next week I will explain as best I can--how to use the jig worm.
