It has been 6 months since Minnesota Muskie anglers have been able to wet a line in our home state. With strong support from groups like Muskies Inc and solid management by the MN DNR Minnesota's muskie fishing opportunities in the state are exceptional.....the good ole days of muskie angling in MN are right now. One of the keys to the successfull muskie agenda in MN is the ethic of catch and release. Unlike trophy bucks the largest specimans in the muskie world are females....you know the ones who lay the eggs and help ensure the future of muskie angling in our state. In progressive fashion the state has raised the minimum size for harvest to 48" statewide. This is a big step forward....even though most hardcore muskie angler release 100% of their catch it will help reduce harvest from anglers not targeting the fish ie: incidental catches.
I will be writing more about catching the freshwater queen in the next few days but wanted to start with the most important thing first....putting the fish back healthy and ready to be caught again. After all unlike a trophy buck they don't get big by being smart and elusive....they get big by being carefully released !!!!!!!
stay tuned....more to come
