(As told by Brenna's uncle, Trent "TJ" Lorenzen, Brooklyn Park)

This past Memorial Day weekend, I was able to take my niece, Brenna, out fishing on Mille Lacs. We had just anchored and put out a couple bobbers with leeches for Brenna and her sister Alayna, 13. In the meantime I picked up my jigging rod and put a shiner on it. After a couple of casts, Brenna asked if she could try jigging. After a brief tutorial in how to work the bait, I said go for it. Lo and behold, she reeled in this monster walleye on her very first cast. She may have hooked the fish, but it's Brenna who is now "hooked'' on fishing.

Donyal Eret of Chisago City caught this 23-plus-inch walleye on Chisago Lake recently while fishing with her brother, Tom, and his fiancée. It was getting dark when Tom said "one more cast," and Eret hooked this dandy.

Adam Walsh, 11, of Blooming Prairie with a big bass he caught and released on Cannon Lake in Faribault. "We were fishing with a worm and a bobber and WHAMMO, this guy just attacked,'' said Adam's mom, Jennifer. "I didn't have a scale or a tape measure, but we are guessing it's about 5 pounds. The size doesn't matter as the look on his face is priceless!''
