This 42-inch northern fought for more than 15 minutes before it tired and was reeled into the boat.

Wayne Ramaker, of Minnetonka Beach, caught this 42.5-inch northern pike in the BWCA

“After almost canceling my annual trip to the BWCA due to the late ice-out, I caught this fish while canoeing near some rapids using an ultralight rod and reel, a No. 4 Mepps spinner, 10-inch steel leader, and 6-pound test line. I fought the fish for over 15 minutes before it tired enough to land it. Luckily we were near a portage where it was photographed and released. Definitely the biggest fish I have ever caught in fresh water. Credit must be given to Trent and Alan Rezabek, (my brother-in-law and father-in-law), who I have been traveling with to the BWCA for more than 12 years.’’

LUNKER LARGEMOUTH

Nick Schneider of Maplewood caught this monster 5.5-pound largemouth bass recently in an Alexandria-area lake. He caught it using a Texas-rigged plastic lizard.

NIGHT ACTION

Madelyn Mork (right) caught and released this 26-inch walleye while night-fishing on Gull Lake with her sister, Kayla, and her dad, Frank. ‘‘We caught a total of four walleyes, five northerns and a bass in two hours of fishing,’’ Frank Mork said. The family lives in Victoria.
