Lynx work overtime to improve to 2-0

Well, that was a fairly strange game to cover.

I’ve been covering this team for just over one season, and the first half I watched Sunday was, I think, the worst I’ve seen the Lynx play.

And then they come back from 16 down and beat the Sun in overtime?

In an Olympic Gold-medal-winning tag team, the Lynx got key contributions from Maya Moore, Seimone Augustus and Lindsay Whalen in a rather thrilling come-from-behind victory.

Here are some thoughts from the game:

--What a pro Lindsay Whalen is. After struggling mightily in regulation, Whalen scored 10 of Minnesota’s 12 overtime points. It’s amazing how she was able to shrug off a frustrating night and come through in the clutch.

--Another huge night for Maya Moore, who is averaging 33.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.0 steals through two games. It was her play that led the charge that got the Lynx back in the game.

--Seimone Augustus is still clutch, hitting that fall-away jumper to force overtime. Augustus has scored 42 points in two games.

--Rookie center Damiris Dantas had another strong game. She had 10 points and nine rebounds with two assists. She has yet to miss a shot this season.

--The Lynx are hampered by injuries, to be sure. But they still need to get more out of the bench, which produced just 10 points tonight. On the bright side, second-year guard Lindsay Moore played 18-plus minutes and was on the court (with Whalen on the bench) when the Lynx made their big second-half push.

--McCarville said her ankle would be OK, but we’ll have to wait and see. The good news is that the Lynx don’t play again until Saturday.

That’s about all for now. Have a good week.
