Nick Bjugstad is gaining notoriety in the WCHA. After being named the WCHA rookie of the week seven days ago, he is the co-rookie of the week now.

Bjugstad, listed at 6-4, 204, scored three goals and has one assist as the Gophers tied Bemidji State 3-3 in overtime and then beat the Beavers 3-2 in overtime. He had the game-winner in the second game.

The three points clinched home ice for the first round of the WCHA playoffs for Minnesota and fifth place.

The overtime victory was the Gophers' first this season -- they were 0-1-6 -- and the first overtime road victory since Nov. 4, 2006 when they beat UMD 3-2.

Sharing the rookie of the week award with Bjugstad is somebody who will try to stop him this weekend, goalie Chris Kamal of Alaska Anchorage. The Seawolves play the Gophers at Mariucci this weekend in a best-of-three, first round WCHA playoff series.

Kamal, a 5-9, 186-pound netminder from Alpharretta, Ga., beat Minnesota State Mankato 4-0 and 4-1 last weekend in UAA's road sweep.

The shutout was his second this year. The Gophers remember the first, 1-0 on Jan. 29 at Mariucci.

He stopped 66 shots in the two games and had a .985 save percentage. MSU was 0-for-11 on the power play.

Kamal's father, Dan, is the play-by-play radio broadcaster for the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers.
