Gophers search: Calhoun staying at Air Force?

Posted by: Phil Miller under Coaching, College football, Gopher coaches Updated: December 1, 2010 - 2:52 PM

Troy Calhoun is a popular name on coaching searches around the country, but apparently he hasn't been swayed by what he's heard yet. The Air Force coach was approached by the Gophers, perhaps Indiana too, and was rumored to be most interested in the vacant Colorado job.

But Colorado "was unable to get Calhoun interested in leaving Air Force," sources told the Denver Post.

Calhoun has never publicly acknowledged contact with Minnesota, but he was widely reported to be among athletic director Joel Maturi's candidates. Calhoun is 33-18 in four seasons at the academy, after 17 seasons as an assistant in college football and the NFL.

Like Calhoun, ESPN analyst Mike Bellotti was believed to be a candidate at both schools, but Bellotti, after touring the Boulder, Colo., campus, the longtime Oregon coach said he was inclined to wait until 2012, after his son graduates from high school in Eugene, Ore.
