The Gophers gave up two goals in the final 12 minutes and lost 3-1 to Auburn at the Rebel Classic on Sunday in Oxford, Miss.

Freshman Rachel McCloskey scored the tying goal for the Gophers in the 33rd minute, heading in a Becca Roberts free kick taken from 40 yards out. The goal ended a scoreless streak of 300 minutes for the Tigers. But Brooke Ranmsier scored the go-ahead goal for Auburn in the 79th minute, then assisted on Logan Beal's insurance goal about 4 minutes later.

U golfers third, Mendez sixth

The Gophers men's golf team was in third place, 21 over par, after 36 holes of the 15-team Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club.

Gophers sophomore Jose Mendez is tied for sixth after back-to-back round of 1-over-par 72.

Baylor, at 4 over, leads the team standings, 10 strokes ahead of California. Charlotte is fourth, a stroke behind the Gophers. The tournament concludes Monday with the third and final round.

Duluth mile crowns champions

Jack Bolas and Heather Kampf won titles at the Grandma's Minnesota Mile on Sunday in downtown Duluth. Bolas, 26, of Chapel Hill, N.C., won the men's race in 4 minutes, 2.3 seconds. Jon Peterson of Minneapolis was second in 4:04.0.

Kampf, 27, of Team USA Minnesota, claimed the women's division in 4:29.9, four seconds ahead of Sara Vaughn of Boulder, Colo.
