Drew Wolitarsky, California’s all-time leading high school receiver, announced his commitment to the Gophers on Sunday at the West Coast Bowl, a showcase for Division I recruits.

Wolitarsky, a 6-3, 205-pound senior from Canyon Country, Calif., actually committed to the Gophers the second week of December, but this ended any suspense.

Wolitarsky said he made official visits to Minnesota and San Jose State, and according to Rivals.com, he also had scholarship offers from Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada and San Jose State, among others.

With signing day coming Feb. 6, the Gophers have at least 18 available scholarships and 15 commitments. The other notable WR commitment is Eric Carter, from Lakeland, Fla.

Wolitarsky broke California’s records for career receptions and yards, which were previously held by Steve Smith, who’s now with the St. Louis Rams. This year alone, Wolitarsky had 89 catches for 1,275 yards and 15 touchdowns.

ESPN’s scouting report (subscription required) says, “Wolitarsky is a possession player with redeeming qualities. ... Possesses good size and strength as an outside receiver, but lacks top end speed and may be a candidate to move down into an H position with added bulk. ... Super productive young high school receiver who has the tools to be productive in the right system at the next level.”
