Gophers volleyball team plays two at No. 4 Texas

  • Updated: September 6, 2012 - 12:25 AM

The Gophers volleyball team will face its first ranked team of the season when it plays No. 4 Texas on Thursday and Friday night in Austin.

The Longhorns are 5-1, with their one loss coming last weekend at Penn State. They are led by 2011 Big 12 Player of the Year Bailey Webster, a junior outside hitter.

Last season the Gophers played host to the Longhorns and beat them 3-0 in both matches.

Texas has the nation's longest current home winning streak at 33 matches. The Longhorns are 81-2 at home since the 2007 season.

The Gophers are ranked 14th and off to a 5-0 start under new coach Hugh McCutcheon.

The U.S. men's wheelchair basketball team, which includes Ian Lynch of Brooklyn Park, beat Germany 57-46 in the quarterfinals. The Americans play Australia in Thursday's semifinals.
