Griner out of WNBA All-Star Game

It's official. Phoenix center Brittney Griner, who has missed the Mercury's last five games with a sore knee, will not play in Saturday's WNBA All-Star Game in Connecticut. Seattle forward Tina Thompson will replace Griner on the Western Conference roster.

There is a good chance Chicago rookie Elena Delle Donne, the leading vote-getter for the game, will also miss it after sustaining a concussion in Wednesday's loss to Washington.

With Tulsa rookie Skylar Diggins not on the Western Conference team, that means the much-hyped "3 to see.'' could all miss the game.

I think there is a very good chance Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve -- who is coaching the Western Conference team -- will start Lynx forward Rebekkah Brunson in Griner's place. That means the starting lineup would include three Minnesota players, as Maya Moore and Seimone Augustus were both voted into the starting lineup by the fans.

Lindsay Whalen is the fourth Lynx player at the All-Star Game.
