After batting .344 with eight home runs and 32 stolen bases in 68 games at Cedar Rapids, the Twins have promoted their 2012 No. 1 draft pick Brian Buxton to the Fort Myers Miracle of the Florida State League.
Fort Myers is considered a higher level of Class A baseball than Cedar Rapids, where Buxton had been the dominant player in the Midwest League. He ranked first in the league with a .431 on-base percentage, .559 slugging percentage, 68 runs and 10 triples.
Twins general manager Terry Ryan watched Buxton, 19, play this weekend in Wisconsin before making the move. Buxton went 2-for-5 Sunday with a triple in his final game with the Kernels.
Recently, Kernels manager Jake Mauer told the Cedar Rapids web site Metrosportsreport.com: "He's been our lynchpin. He's handled himself very well. He brings a confidence about himself. He challenges his teammates, which is huge."
Another top Twins prospect, Miguel Sano, was promoted last week from Fort Myers to Class AA New Britain, where he is batting .171 in his first 11 games.
