The NBA draft will be held in two weeks and the mock drafts are starting to flow. Unlike the recent Derrick Williams/Wes Johnson/Ricky Rubioooooooooooooooo drafts, the Wolves are picking the second half of the first round -- and so the picture is much more muddied.
They could always swing a deal before June 28 but that, too, makes things all that much more uncertain.
So with that in mind, Upload has done you a favor by sifting through some of the mock drafts to see who the Wolves will absolutely and most certainly select with the 18th choice, which came courtesy of the Utah Jazz making the playoffs.
Sports Illustrated: In its Mock Draft 2.0, they take North Carolina power forward John Henson: "The Wolves, who are also looking at Iowa State forward Royce White here, would welcome a rim defender like Henson who could spark stops and get out and run with point guard Ricky Rubio," writes SI's Sam Amick.
Sporting News (today's version): The Wolves go for a shooting guard to take over for Johnson and go for Terrence Ross of Washington: "They need a scorer on the wing, and if they can get a guy with Ross’ versatility here, it’d be a nice score."
Sporting News (May 30 version): Two weeks ago, Sporting News had the Wolves going the power forward route and take Arnett Moultrie of Mississippi State: "The Timberwolves have a proud history of drafting wings who don’t pan out (Corey Brewer, Wayne Ellington, Wesley Johnson), and they could go in that direction again. But some frontcourt depth would help, too."
Hoopsworld has all three of those guys being off the board by the Wolves' No. 18 selection, including Henson being taken at No. 9 by the Detroit Pistons. So its draft goes with Memphis shooting guard/small forward Will Barton.
CBSsports.com has a pair of mock drafts in which the Wolves take small forwards Moe Harkless of St. John's of Quincy Miller of Baylor, depending on who's doing the picking.
BusinessInsider.com: Did you know that Business Insider has a sports page? Did you know that its giving the Wolves 7-foot power forward Tyler Zellar of North Carolina?
Insidehoops.com has the Wolves going for shooting guard Dion Walters of Syracuse and offers up this piece of advice in promoting itself: "The web is now flooded with thousands of NBA mock drafts. Most should be ignored."
What fun is that?
