Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could keep lies from conquering the minds of the weak. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Monday (Can Martell Webster be "the guy") edition: Wha' Happened?

Wolves writer Jerry Zgoda asks a vital question in the midst of his piece today on Martell Webster:

While Timberwolves brass searches league rosters looking to add by a March 15 trade deadline the starting shooting guard they clearly lack, is it still possible the player they seek is right in their midst?

It's an interesting question that leads to other questions. Namely:

*Webster has scored in double-figures three of the past four games, including a season-high 21 in a victory over his old team, Portland, on Saturday. Is this merely a hot streak or is this a sign that he's getting healthy and ready for a bigger role on a team trying to make a playoff push?

*Even if he is healthy and capable of giving the team 20-30 good minutes a night, should their search at shooting guard be over?

We have to say, the thing that has impressed us most recently about Webster's play is his efficiency. Over those four games, he's scored a total of 55 points on just 30 field goal attempts, making 20 of them. And it hasn't just been from three-point range, though he is 5-for-9 from long-distance during that span. The streak, too, started shortly after he took all the heat for his overtime decision in Denver.

Sometimes the best trade is the one you don't make. Or, more aptly, sometimes the best trade is a broken-down version of your own player for a healthy one.
