Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could convince the world to love jumpsuits as much as he does. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Each week commenter Stu tracks down a former Minnesota sports figure about whom you otherwise might have forgotten. Stu?

------

The Hunt Down

Name: Matthew Hatchette

Claim to Fame, Minnesota: a wide receiver for the Vikings from 1997-2000. Caught the last touchdown of the 1998-99 season, a 5-yard pass from Randall Cunningham that gave Minnesota a 27-17 lead over Atlanta on January 17, 1999. I don’t remember much else about what happened after that. Probably nothing worth focusing on, so let’s move on to the next section.

Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: the Cleveland native is a graduate of tiny Langston University, in Langston, Oklahoma. He finished his professional career with stops in New York (Jets), Oakland, Jacksonville and Amsterdam. Upon retiring, he worked on making a career in Hollywood, which has two noteworthy chapters:

  • Chapter One: produced (via his production company, Hatchet Films) and is the fifth-billed star in the 2007 movie The Take, featuring John Leguizamo, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Perez and Bobby Cannavale. If you have seen this movie, please tell us about it the comments section.
  • Chapter Two: appeared in a 2009 episode of the Bravo series Millionaire Matchmaker. Per the episode description, the titular matchmaker thinks Matt has a problem with chivalry and needs to be sent to a chivalry camp and I swear I am not making that up and now I am dying inside.

Where He Is Now: He is the defensive coordinator/wide receivers coach at Calabasas High School. You may have seen his friend, Terrell Owens, working out there last October. Any further information you need can be found at www.matthewhatchette.com.

Is He on Twitter: Yes! Follow him @Hatch89

Glorious Randomness: Hatchette is also the Director of Celebrity Relations for Z-Celebrities, “an independent provider of managed online media to the celebrity world.” Yeah, your guess is as good as mine, but the celebrities include Randy Moss, Goldberg and Raekwon.
