Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could convince the world to love jumpsuits as much as he does. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Stu's Hunt Down: Ex-Vikings QB Kelly Holcomb

Posted by: Michael Rand under Vikings Updated: October 7, 2011 - 11:40 AM

When commenter Stu is neither hungry nor starving, he finds time to track down a Minnesota sports figure about whom you might have forgotten. Stu?

------

The Huntdown

Name: Kelly Holcomb

Claim to Fame, Minnesota: prior to 2011, Holcomb was the last veteran Vikings quarterback to be winless in multiple starts and lose on the road to Kansas City. In his defense, he was the back-up to Tarvaris Jackson and only started because Jackson was injured and the other option was Grand Forks Central alum (and current Hill-Murray coach) Brooks Bollinger.

Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: the high-water mark of his NFL career was starting the only Cleveland Browns playoff game since their revival in 1999, a 36-33 loss to the Steelers. Holcomb had a monster game, completing 26 of 43 passes for 429 yards and three touchdowns, but was bested by fellow journeyman Tommy Maddox. As this February 2011 interview with Cleveland.com makes clear, Holcomb is still remembered fondly in Cleveland.

Where He Is Now: working as an analyst on football games for his alma mater, the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State.

Is He on Twitter: not that I can tell.

Glorious Randomness: you may remember Middle Tennessee State as the last team that former Gopher coach and noted chili-temperature-enthusiast Tim Brewster defeated before being canned last year. What you may not remember is that they regrouped and went on to play Miami (Ohio) in the 2011 GoDaddy.com Bowl (formerly the GMAC Bowl, formerly the Mobile Alabama Bowl).
