Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could keep lies from conquering the minds of the weak. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. Name: Matt LeCroy
Claim to Fame, Minnesota: a prototypical never-meanin’-no-harm good old boy, the South Carolina native played for the Twins from 2000-2005 and in 2007 as a DH and backup catcher/first baseman. He struck out a lot and everyone on the team loved him. Allegedly tried to get Eddie Guardado to eat opossum. Definitely had gout.
Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: his emergency catching for the Washington Nationals in a 2006 game was so bad (six stolen bases allowed, two errors) that manager Frank Robinson removed him in the middle of the game and cried about it afterwards.
Where He Is Now: is the manager for your Potomac Nationals, Washington’s single-A affiliate. Perhaps in tribute to his oft-tossed Twins manager, LeCroy was recently ejected from a game during the plate meeting.
Is He On Twitter: seriously? No.
Well, Does He Have a Baseball Camp, Then: He did, yes. Does not appear to be active, though.
Glorious Randomness: LeCroy’s hometown of Belton is home to the yearly Belton Standpipe Festival, named after the city’s water tower, which was built in 1908 and is still in use today!
