Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could convince the world to love jumpsuits as much as he does. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Stu's Hunt Down: Ex-Wolves player Antoine Walker

Posted by: Michael Rand under Sports Updated: January 27, 2011 - 12:18 PM

As one of the longest-standing RandBall Commenter features, Stu's Hunt Down has withstood the test of time and all the haters. The premise is simple: He finds a sports figure with Minnesota ties you might have forgotten about and reminds you about that person in his own special way. Stu?

---------------------

The Hunt Down

Name: Antoine Walker

Claim to Fame, Minnesota: the NBA veteran was the “big name” acquired by the Timberwolves from Miami in the 2007 Ricky Davis trade (apologies to Michael Doleac and Wayne Simien). Alas, Walker’s time in Minnesota was short, as he was shipped to Memphis in the summer of 2008 as part of the OJ Mayo/Kevin Love deal. Walker played 46 games for the Wolves, and despite a reputation as a malcontent gunner with weight trouble, he earned praise from both Patrick Reusse and Britt Robson in his time with the squad, JUST AS THE MAYANS FORETOLD.

Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else, Basketball: played two years at Kentucky under Rick Pitino, winning a championship in 1996 and earning all-ACC honors in 1997. He was drafted sixth overall by the Boston Celtics, where he made three All-Star teams. When Boston traded him to Dallas in 2003, his career as an NBA journeyman began in earnest, with teams required to involve him in any and all multi-player deals. Here is a list of the players he was traded with or for, not including draft picks: Tony Delk (twice), Raef LaFrentz, Jiri Welsch, Chris Mills, Jason Terry, Alan Henderson, Gary Payton, Tom Gugliotta, Michael Stewart, Jason Williams, James Posey, Eddie Jones, Andre Emmett, Roberto Duenas, Greg Ostertag, Curtis Borchardt, Qyntel Woods, Albert Miralles, Rasual Butler, Kirk Snyder, Raul Lopez, Doleac, Simien, Davis, Mark Blount, Marko Jaric, Greg Buckner, Mayo, Love, Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, and Jason Collins. (Suggestion: now read those names to the tune of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start The Fire.”) Walker did win a title with the Heat in 2006.

Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else, Legal Issues: Walker was robbed twice in Chicago, on the South Side in 2000 and in his own home in 2007. He has also been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Miami and charged with writing bad checks at multiple Las Vegas casinos. He filed for bankruptcy in May of last year, with assets of $4.3 million and liabilities of $12.7 million.

Where He Is Now: he is playing basketball for the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Developemental League. Although he got off to a rough, airballed-free throw start, his play has allegedly improved. We wish him and his creditors the very best.

Is He on Twitter: No.

Glorious Randomness: Walker attended Chicago’s Mt. Carmel High School with possible 2011 Vikings starting QB Donovan McNabb.
