Sophomore goalie Mat Robson of the Gophers was named the Big Ten's first star of the week in men's hockey after shutting out then-No. 1 St. Cloud State 2-0 on Sunday.

Robson, of Mississauga, Ontario, stopped 34 shots in his first career shutout.

He is 2-1 since becoming eligible about a month ago.

Ex-Gophers watch

Seven former Gophers volleyball players are on pro teams overseas this winter, five of them in Italy.

The five players on Italian teams: Tori Dixon, Saugella Team Monza; Lauren Gibbemeyer, Igor Gorgonzola Novara; Daly Santana and Hannah Tapp, both Bisonte Firenze, Italy; and Sarah Wilhite, Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio.

Paige Tapp, Hannah's twin sister, is playing for Allianz MTV Stuttgart, Germany, and Erica Handley for Nantes, France.

Three Auggies honored

Augsburg forward Collin Olmscheid, a senior from Buffalo, was named to the D3hoops.com's team of the week. He had back-to-back 29-point games against Hamline and St. Olaf. The Auggies are 10-2.

Megan Johnson, a junior women's hockey forward, was named to the D3hockey.com's team of the week. She scored three goals as the Auggies (9-3-1) swept of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Lucas Jeske, a 165-pound sophomore from St. Michael, was named to USA Wrestling/TheMat.com's athlete of the week. He had two pins and a major decision as the Auggies won the Division III National Duals in Fort Wayne, Ind.

• Gophers senior defensive lineman Steven Richardson accepted an invitation to play in the third-year FBS All Americans Tropical Bowl on Jan. 14 in Daytona Beach, Fla.

• Denver's Blake Hillman, a junior from Elk River, was named the NCHC defensive player of the week. He had three assists and was a plus-4 for the Pioneers in their series split with Miami (Ohio).

• Matt Kellogg was named Winona State's women's soccer coach. He held the same job at North Dakota from 2013 to '16.
