Penn State sweeps Badgers

• PENN STATE 4, WISCONSIN 1: In its second year as a varsity program, Penn State is atop the Big Ten standings — at least temporarily. The Nittany Lions completed a sweep of Wisconsin on Saturday in State College, Pa., and moved one point ahead of Michigan in the Big Ten standings. The Wolverines played later Saturday against Michigan State in the Hockey City Classic in Chicago. That game started late because of warm weather.

Penn State (15-7-4, 7-2-1 Big Ten) made sure Wisconsin (2-18-4, 0-8-2) stayed winless in conference play by taking a 2-1 lead through two periods and added two goals in the third to seal the victory.

• MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO 4, ALASKA-ANCHORAGE 0: Teddy Blueger had a goal and an assist, and the top-ranked Mavericks (23-5-1, 19-2-1 WCHA) put up 53 shots on goal against the visiting Seawolves (7-15-4, 4-14-2).

• MICHIGAN TECH 2, BEMIDJI STATE 1: Tanner Kero scored off a rebound with 6:01 to play as the Huskies (22-7-1, 17-4-1 WCHA) defeated the Beavers (10-14-4, 6-10-4) in Houghton, Mich.

• MINNESOTA DULUTH 6, NORTHERN MICHIGAN 3: Adam Krause had a goal and three assists, including one on Justin Crandall's shorthanded goal, and the host Bulldogs (17-10-1) beat the Wildcats (11-11-6) in a nonconference game.
