Sophomore quarterback Brad Davison provided the spark, and senior running back Clark Wieneke was the calming force. Together, they powered the Crimson to 21 first-half points to go with a dominating defense to lead Maple Grove to a statement victory. Davison came off the bench late in the first quarter, completed a pair of long passes, and threw a touchdown pass to Will Ruel in the second quarter. Wieneke had 103 rushing yards before the break and finished with three touchdowns.

Key of the game: After Edina cut the lead to 14-8 on a 66-yard touchdown pass from Charlie Smith to Ben Boone, the 6-3 Davison drove the Crimson 80 yards to retake the lead on a Wieneke touchdown with 14.1 seconds left in the half. Davidson hit Adam Brant on a 41-yard pass during the drive.

Quote: "In the huddle he's always very poised, and he did a great job. I was [expecting it]. … I knew he could handle it." — Wieneke on his quarterback's performance.

One thing to know: Davison was the Crimson basketball team's starting point guard as a freshman last season.
