Gophers-Wisconsin game preview

8 p.m. vs. Wisconsin • Williams Arena • Big Ten Network, 1500-AM

Gophers at a glance: After getting crushed at Iowa 94-73 on Sunday, Minnesota is again trying to lift their Big Ten record back above .500. Wisconsin represents the last of four top-15 teams in as many games for the Gophers, who have gone 1-2 in that stretch. At Iowa, the Gophers had a 10-point lead with 1 minute, 13 seconds to go in the first half, but the Hawkeyes slashed the deficit to two by halftime and then systematically picked apart Minnesota’s defense in the second half. Andre Hollins had an 18-point first half, but managed only two points in the second. Austin Hollins did pick up his personal game after struggling for most of the league schedule, finishing with 13 points, eight rebounds and five steals. The Gophers have led by double digits at some point in all but one of their Big Ten games, but have managed only a 3-3 record.

Wisconsin at a glance: The Badgers were one of the nation’s last remaining unbeaten teams, but in the last week have started to look much more human, dropping two in a row — first at Indiana, and then at home against Michigan on Saturday. The Badgers have a balanced lineup, with all five starters averaging between 9.1 and 13.8 points and 3.7 and 6.3 rebounds a game. Wisconsin is hitting 39.2 percent of its three-point attempts, and Josh Gasser matched a career high with four three-pointers in the loss to Michigan. The Badgers have allowed opponents to hit 56.8 percent of their two-pointers in the past two games, according to kenpom.com. The Badgers rank first in the nation in not fouling, and third in not turning over the ball, with a 12.9 turnover percentage.
