Saturday at Canterbury

The Minnesota Derby for 3-year-old colts and geldings and the Minnesota Oaks for 3-year-old fillies highlight a 10-race card Saturday at Canterbury Park. The Oaks and Derby each offer a purse of $75,000, the largest awarded to Minnesota-bred 3-year-olds since 1988.

Post time: 1:30 p.m. The Derby is the seventh race, and the Oaks is the eighth.

Minnesota Derby: Sugar Business, winner of last year's Northern Lights Futurity for Minnesota-bred 2-year-old males, is the 3-1 morning-line favorite. Trained by Tony Rengstorf and owned by Curtis Sampson of Hector, he has two career victories; none of his seven rivals has more than one. He will be ridden by Ry Eikleberry.

Minnesota Oaks: Badge of Glory, trained by Bernell Rhone, will attempt to become only the third horse to sweep the track's three major races for young state-bred fillies: the Northern Lights Debutante for 2-year-olds, and the Frances Genter Stakes and the Oaks for 3-year-olds. Owned by Cheryl Sprick and Richard Bremer of Lake City, she will be ridden by Scott Stevens and is the third choice at 5-1 on the morning line. BJ's Angel (3-1) and Sweet Tango (4-1) top the field of 10.
